I Lost Myself

I think I lost myself.
Somewhere along the lines,
I started being afraid to be me.
Afraid to sketch and to draw,
Because I wasn't the best.
Afraid to imagine and write,
Because I'm simply average.
Afraid even to sing at times,
Because I wasn't the favorite.

I think I lost myself.
Somewhere along the lines,
I started doing only what I was best at,
Only what I could really succeed at.
Don't face the fears,
Just ignore them.
Don't bother with challenges,
Only do what comes naturally,
Then maybe they'd approve of me.

I think I lost myself.
Somewhere along the lines,
I started worrying about being the best.
If I stuck to what I was good at,
No one could ever criticize me.
They could only applaud and say,
"Look there's Lindsey! She's so great!
I wonder what she'd accomplish if she'd only,
Challenge herself."
